Financial Literacy
Empowering Financial Choices for a More Secure Future
At Oasis Center, we believe financial literacy is more than just a skill, it’s a powerful tool for change. It equips individuals with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to make informed financial decisions, avoid common pitfalls, and build lasting economic stability.
Why It Matters
For individuals and families in underserved communities, financial literacy is essential. Economic challenges, limited access to resources, and historical inequities can create barriers to opportunity. Financial education helps individuals overcome these barriers by providing the tools they need to take control of their financial future.
When individuals understand how to manage money wisely, they can make decisions that support their goals, from pursuing higher education to saving for a home or planning for retirement. This knowledge empowers participants to break cycles of poverty and build long-term security for themselves and their families.
What Is Financial Literacy?
Financial literacy is the understanding of key financial concepts, tools, and practices that support smart, confident money management. It helps individuals make choices that align with their goals and values.
At Oasis Center, we begin by asking questions and encouraging participants to explore their current habits, needs, and financial aspirations. Our courses provide relevant, real-life guidance on topics such as:
• Types of bank accounts
• Online and mobile banking
• Interest rates and credit scores
• Responsible use of credit and debit cards
• Debt management and budgeting
• Saving and investing
• Setting short-, medium-, and long-term financial goals
• Identifying and avoiding financial scams
• Planning for retirement
